Have you ever felt your mind racing a thousand miles a minute? First, you’re thinking about what to make for dinner. Then, you mentally remind yourself to pay the bills. After that, it’s thoughts on how to organize the closet. Before you know it, your thoughts have spiraled to, “I need a vacation!”
Here at Soulrise Tribe, we’ve been in this situation far more times than we can count, multiple times each day! While it seems there’s no end in sight to the rapid pace of our thoughts, we have found a way to achieve an inner peace, no matter how long the to-do list. Our solution?
Hear us out. We understand the thought of packing one more thing into a day may leave you running for the hills. However, we know first hand that even short meditation sessions on a regular basis can do wonders for mental health.
It’s been scientifically proven that meditation can reduce stress and anxiety, sharpen the mind, and help with sleep.
The process of meditation forces us to pause every day and focus on the present moment. It shifts our attention from temporary distractions and things we cannot control, to things we can control. This is achieved by closing the eyes and focusing on the breath, a repeating mantra, or following the voice of an instructor (by using an app). When the mind starts to wander, center all thoughts back to that breath, mantra, or voice.
If you’re new to meditation, there are many resources like books, videos, and apps that can help guide you. As you begin your practice, don’t feel discouraged---meditation doesn’t always come easy. As with any new endeavor, “practice makes perfect.” Stick with it and don’t quit! Over time, you’ll find that meditation becomes a habit, one that you’ll look forward to. We can honestly say we live for these moments of stillness each and every day, no matter how short or long they are.
Meditation is critical to finding the internal self, and all the wonderful qualities that make us who we are. By centering our thoughts inward, we come to realize that true happiness is found within, leaving us empowered.
With this power, we realize that it is up to us to lead the life we want. If we want to live a happier and more full life, meditation helps us focus on the positive aspects of our lives, and in turn, learning more about ourselves. More importantly, we truly begin to see our ability to achieve great things and understand our worth.
Each and every one of us is special, with great things to offer this world. If you only have a few minutes each day, we encourage you to use them to your advantage. Take time to pause. Be still. Stay focused. And remind yourself: you are amazing!
