The glory of gardening: hands in the dirt, head in the sun, heart with
nature. To nurture a garden is to feed not just on the body, but the soul.
— Alfred Austin

"Summit Community Gardens (SCG) is a nonprofit organization founded on the mission to build and strengthen our community by educating, empowering, and providing an opportunity for people to grow their own food successfully and sustainably.  We achieve this mission by offering gardening education to adults and youth, garden plot rentals, food donation, and community events.

SCG is located on 1.5 protected acres located centrally in the Snyderville Basin of Park City.  This space is home to community garden plots, perennial demonstration beds, fruit and vegetable demonstration gardens, a beehive, a kids’ garden, and a compost center.  The overarching vision for the space evolved into a community-based garden that would serve as a destination to gather, learn, and grow.

Our first full garden season in 2016, revealed our community’s desire for public growing space.  Eighty Parkites showed up to get their hands dirty, subsequently filling the garden with vegetables, fruits, flowers, and above all, community engagement.  Our committed volunteers harvested vegetables in our demonstration beds for donation to the Christian Center’s food bank program.  SCG gardeners showed up to our community events, and participated in classes and camps throughout the year.  Local support of the garden has only increased over the last years, and far exceeded our expectations.

We are now well into 2018, and our community engagement is stronger than ever, and our relationship with local nonprofits and the local community is thriving.  We have planted and already begun harvesting the demonstration gardens, providing several hundred pounds of produce to the Christian Center’s food bank program.  That number will exponentially increase, as we continue to provide fresh vegetables to the food insecure in our community.

Our community events have kicked off with a bang.  We hosted a gathering in conjunction with Park City Brewery and Komrades food truck to benefit our garden program.  We are hosting a free concert series and community gathering on the second Sunday of each summer month, we are providing yoga in the garden days, and several large volunteer work days.

We have begun summer camps for children in our community to learn about the science, art, and fun of gardening.  Our season will be fully celebrated on August 26th, when we partner with EATS Park City, to host families, community members, and gardeners at our annual DIG In event.  400 People will fill the garden to share in a family meal celebrating local food and community.

At Summit Community Gardens, there are people flowing in and out of the garden, day in and day out to experience the garden’s beauty and peace.  Garden members, neighbors, families, and even non-gardeners all want to experience the garden and take part in our programs and our space.  It has become a place for people to gather, come together, give back to our community, and learn from nature and each other.

At Summit Community Gardens, we see the garden filled not only with growing fruits, vegetables, and flowers, but with the growth of our community."❤
