MILE HIGH WORKSHOP - ONE OF SOULRISE TRIBE'S PARTNERED CHARITIES FOR YOUR 20% DONATION AT WHOLE FOODS COLORADO
“More than 500 people exit incarceration in the Denver-metro area every month and, statistically, half of those folks will be rearrested. Colorado has the third worst recidivism rate in the country, but a good job opportunity can make all the difference from someone who’s transitioning back into the community.
Mile High WorkShop exists as a stepping stone for men and women who are rebuilding from prison, addictions and homelessness. We offer employment and on-the-job training opportunities as well as a suite of supportive services to assist people who are reentering mainstream society.
The business model of the shop is built around providing contract services for other companies, primarily assembly and distribution with some light woodworking and sewing activities as well. Program participants are paid to learn job skills and meet regularly with on-site counselors and social workers.
Since 2014, the WorkShop has been growing and offering opportunities to men and women who are looking to work again. We have lots of metrics to evaluate success, but one of our core measurements and sources of pride is that of every person we’ve had the pleasure of bringing into the program, less than 7% have been reincarcerated. A rate well below the state average and a fact that has a huge impact on our community.
At a very fundamental level, all of our work rests on the idea that every person is important. We believe that no matter what mistakes a person has made in the past and no matter how many times they’ve made those mistakes, they are still valuable. We believe that every person deserves a chance to experience the dignity, opportunity and satisfaction that comes with a job well done.”
